On 28th April 2007, the K Krew took the Totally Sold Out concert series to Nakuru's Afraha stadium. On the performance line-up was FATMOD, Heart and Soul (reggae band), KiKi, SK Blue, Kamau Karongo, DJ Moz, DJ Soxxy, Walson, Rock Of Ages (rock band), the Hip Hope Crew - Astar, Juliani and Michelle (Rigga leads worship at NPC Woodley thus his absence), Sheila, MOG, Zaidi Ya Mziki (who had left Mombasa the previous night), Mwenie of VUC, Jemimah Thiong'o, Esther Wahome, Rufftone, Daddy Owen and hometowners Cubanotics. The artists left for Nakuru on Saturday and, together with Coca-cola, had a road show in Nakuru town promoting the gig. On Sunday morning, artistes split and worshipped at different Churches around Nakuru that also acted as a promo for the event that afternoon. Fast forward to the event. First up was Mwenie of VUC who sang the national anthem. Reggae band Heart and Soul then jumped on stage for a live session of Praise and Worship. Local acts warmed the crowd as curtain raisers for the artistes. MOG then took to the stage and gave a thrilling performance (we'll try and get their singles onto the site...) FATMOD then got the crowd jumping with Halle Halle and the ever popular Songa Kando. KiKi dropped her new single produced by R Kay and you know the gurl can saaang! Sheila was up next with Clap you Hands, a collabo with SK Blue and also did her new single Fallin', a Blackman joint. Jemmimah Thiong'o then arrived and rocked the crowd mbaya! Akisema atakubariki... DJ Moz stepped in and gave the word and alter call. Alot of guys came forward and gave their lives to Christ. The Hip Hope crew started the 2nd half of the concert with Juliani dropping a dry acapella cut of his hit Jesusnosis and also performed Pendo Kweli. Astar then did his album version of Nimechoka featuring Chizi. Michelle also dropped her new single Focus and closed out the Hip Hope set with Pump Yo Fist. (Ps. Hey Michelle, we saw guys in New Jersey dance to this song in their performances. You should see the moves!) Zaidi ya Mziki crew of Jogg-C and Gospel Fathers was next and performed their hits Nakuona, Kiama and the ever popular Fundi wa Mbao. Daddy Owen then gave the crowd select singles from his new album The Son of Man (its available in the downloads section). He then paved way for Esther Wahome who did the famous Kuna Dawa song as well as songs from her new album Asali. Heart and Soul band went back on stage this time doing their reggae thing. We must say that their album is off the chains probably one of the best live reggae albums in the country. Rufftone then jumped in, backed by Heart and Soul and did his famous songs. The clouds (no, we did not shrub there) then opened up and started raining but bado the crowd (see, we told you we did not shrub) was still in the mix, full muenjoyo. Finally, Rock of Ages got on stage and did a few rock remixes of praise songs and finished with the jam Vumilia. The show was electric from 2pm till 9:30pm and after that, the artists went to Malindi Express for some pilau, ugali, chicken, the works. You gotta see these photos! The next Totally Sold Out concert will be held in Kisumu on 12th August 2007 and then off to Mombasa on the 26th of August 2007. Big up to the K Krew fam. {comment} |
