NAIROBI - SPA Fest is an annual dance showdown for Christian dance groups showcasing creative well choreographed moves. This year's event is bound to have stiff competition with teams competiting for Kshs 420, 000 in prize money. The all-night event will be held on Friday 18th June 2010 at the Nairobi Pentecoastal Church (N.P.C) in Karen from 8pm to 6am. Artists lined up for performances include Allan Aaron, Eko Dydda, Suz-eye, MC Dice and The Stomperz. The K-Krew will be behind the DJ decks as Alemba eMCees the event. Advanced tickets are going for Kshs 300 with gate tickets riding at Kshs 400. There are two categories of the competition, A & B with seven dance groups in each of them. Here are some questions and answers that can shed more light on the event.

How were dance groups in category A and Category B determined?
There was a preliminary round held on 24th April 2010. Fourteen finalists were chosen. The first seven are placed in category A and the rest in category B.

How is the prize money being awarded?
1st prize in category A -200 000/-
2nd prize category A - 100 000/-
1st prize in category B - 80 000/-

2nd prize category B - 40 000/-

We know there are 70 acts in the finals. How is the competition organized?
Each of the 14 dance groups must come up with at least 5 performances. This includes 4 dances and a performance encompassing some Bible trivia.

Do they have guidelines on the dances eg must be a Kenyan song or reggae etc or are they free to choose their songs?
Yes they have guidelines from the organizers and they change each year. For example one of them this year is a themed dance. (editor's note: ok, we ain't dance gurus but we get the gist of this answer)

The judges look out for co-ordinated moves, creativity and the general flow among others. The event is organized by Dance Nasi Ltd, a company owned by individuals who were at some point members of the group ICC Dance group Stomperz. That should explain why The Stomperz are in the performance list and not competitors.
