Growth for Patrick Maina, Fredrick Ouma, Samuel Maina and Harrison Ashioya collectively known as BMF has been evident ever since they got on to the gospel music scene. In 2012 they finally dropped their much awaited debut album ‘Rise Up’, officially releasing it in December.
Rise up features a few of their tracks that have gotten massive airplay such as Birthday , Rudi Nyumbani, I live for you and Holy ghost fire. Saint P produces and features on the albums surprise track Mpenzi Wa Surprise which happens to be a remix. Ulopa produces the album’s title track using their signature dancehall like sound with a heavy bass drum that will definitely have you dancing and literally rising up. Ndakhuyanza continues where Rudi nyumbani left off showing BMF’s strength in fusing different languages to their advantage. Majority of the songs on this album are up tempo and have the opportunity to become party anthems. On Worship You a contemporary worship song BMF declare total dependence on the lord with the hip hop jam Dream breaking the monotony of the pop like sound that has easily become BMF’s signature.
The unfortunate bit about this album is that the songs all seem to stand alone lacking in a continuous flow of thought. Being a group it is unfortunate that some people would seem to ride off others talent.
BMF is a group that has achieved a lot and definitely one to watch. They also have a unique sound which even internationally can hold its own. Their story like that of other groups before them such as gospel fathers and Jogg C is one of hard work and reliance on God.
