MERCY MASIKA ALBUM LAUNCH
Sun, 10 Aug 2008

Mercy Masika is arguably the hottest ticket in the gospel scene right now. No better time to launch her album so on Saturday 9th August 2008, she pulled an impressive show with a host of curtain-raisers behind her back. The event was held at the Nairobi Cinema and featured appearances by her producer R-Kay, Eunice Njeri, Talanta Awards winner Juliani who doubled up as an MC, dance group The Saintz, Njoro, Ethiopian-born artist Haimie, Nina Njoroge and Mercy Wairegi. With Better Pill Production's skit also added in the opening acts, the day's main artist would easily have been missed if not the crowd exhausted. But it was not to be.

The MCs for the event were Kinijo (John Hinga) and Juliani who did a splendid job engaging the crowd. K-Krew's DJ Krowbar was on the decks and ensured the party atmosphere was maintained. Producer R-Kay took to the mic in one of the rare performances he has had in the year. He did the title song of his debut album Kiboko Yao with Mercy Masika. Increasingly popular Eunice Njeri also thrilled the crowd with a couple of songs as did Nina Njoroge and Juliani.

Then came the moment everyone was waiting for. Mercy Masika started off her set by doing some singles from her previous album (available in the downloads section) and had the audience on their feet. She then performed songs from her new album that also includes collaborations with Eunice Njeri, Haimie, Nina Njoroge and her mom. Her dancers added more pomp and colour to her show with some well choreographed moves.

We also spotted Daddy Owen, Ngashville, Holy Dave and MOG's Tony and Ken-T. There was a lower-than-expected turn-out considering the publicity the event got on the media and the good reception her singles have been getting across the board. Some sound and light glitches also did little to dampen the event. Her CDs, which were going for a special price sold like hot samosas. Ok, that was lame, but you get the drift. Mercy Masika ties the knot later on this month (yes, we said this month!) to Dave Muguro. We wish them well as they start their new journey together.

i think Masika had a wonderful album launch but i think she is not arguably the hottest ticket in the gospel scene right now compared to Eunice Njeri whose New album is (Bwana Yesu Umeniweza) is hot than Masika's ( Milele) but thanks to both for passing the Gospel and praising the Lord.

mercy's music got the real message.....the album launch was good.but who was your time keeper, sound system was fine but how about the lighting & the stage ones that kept burning, ushering was a bit poor with seats reserved for VIPs who i didn't see occupy them on one side of the hall.more effort please.
