MADLOVE LOUNGE SEPT 08 RECAP
Wednesday, 24 September 2008

The September edition of the increasingly popular event, Mad Love Lounge was held on Sunday, 22. The Kula Kona restaurant in Hurlingham Nairobi was the venue, and once again, the performers proved that the Kenyan gospel scene is abounding with talent. Holy Dave aka HD was the host as Deejay Octave was behind the wheels mixing some tight gospel. The turnout was great as the venue was packed to capacity. Performances ranged from mellow neo-soul, poetry, spoken word, Lingala to hard-hitting rap and hip-hop. One of the most notable performers was Black Skillz. This was his first appearance at the event and his free-style poetry was inspiring, thought provoking and a crowd favourite. He also showed his vocal ability and performed a neo-soul track.

Hip-hop artist Number 8 (Dann Mwangi) blessed the audience with hard-hitting rap, challenging hip-hop artists to maintain high standards in their music. The trio of Genesis, Kama and DJ Psalms brought the house down with their two freestyle rap tracks and it was impossible not to enjoy their act.

The ladies stepped up too, with Shiro giving a lovely performance. She sang and skillfully played the guitar to the delight of the adoring fans. Newcomer, Marion also did a delightful mellow track. Holy Dave dropped a couple of freestyle rhymes that got the audience asking for more. He also did his blazing track, Whatever Man, which also got mad applause from the audience.

Squadi Sauti gave an electrifying performance with their tracks Stay Happy and Jemedari. However, their best piece was the Lingala song, Ameokoka, which got the crowd to their feet. Another interesting presentation was by Fuse who did spoken word and poetry. There were also dancers, Tony and Gloria, who amazed the audience with their gifted moves.

Others present were Nuru Bahati, Gravity, B4C Family, DJ Johny Celeb, DJ Ric (who was just back from a gospel tour in Germany), DJ Touch and Code Red’s Steve. Increasingly, the event has attracted young and upcoming gospel artists and has provided an avenue for them to showcase their talent. We at KenyanGospel.com have continually been supportive of the event since its inception. Look out for details of the October edition of the event.
