KAMPALA, Uganda - Kirk Franklin and his team made up of singers and band members were caught up in the riots that shook the Ugandan capital on Thursday 9th September 2009. No one in the team was hurt but Kirk describes hearing gunshots and seeing tear gas rent the air. Their convoy was forced to make a retreat as Kampala became a no-go zone where the military clashed with rebels. The multi-award winning, multi-platinum selling U.S gospel artist says that he expects to hold a concert in Kampala on Friday September 11th 2009 if the situation improves. Kirk narrates their ordeal in a video blog posted on YouTube where he mentions that their security guard had to fire with his AK47 to protect the team.
This is what Kirk posted on his official Twitter acount on Friday - "hard time sleeping.. still shook from riots here. also got a call from u.s. that a good friends son was killed in crash. rough day.." Kirk Franklin is expected in Nairobi on Saturday 12th September 2009 for the Mavuno Spread the Love Festival that also features an array of local acts. He is also holding a show in Lusaka, Zambia and Tokyo, Japan. Check out Kirk's video blog below.
