The 18th annual Kenya Christian Fellowship in America (KCFA) conference was held on the 3rd - 6th July 2008 at the James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA. Hundreds of Kenyans living in various parts of the U.S attended the conference that was split up into three: the main conference, the youth conference for the teenagers and young adults and the children's conference for those under 12. Among the invited guests was Kenya's Ambassador to the U.S, Peter N.R.O Ogego. The main speakers of the conference included Bishop J.B Masinde, Senior Pastor of Deliverance Church, Umoja, Apostle David Karanja of Christ Harvesters Church, Georgia, former KCFA President Rev. Dr Joseph Njoroge, Dallas-based Rev William E White and Mrs Loice Nyambura Byler. Musical guests included Zaidi ya Mziki, KiKi, Joan Mwangangi, Lillian Odera, Sir Kybez among others. Unlike other years, the conference started on Thursday night (as opposed to Friday for previous years) and also saw the induction of the New York chapter of the organization. A new board to the organization was also elected to run for the next three years. The conference included numerous workshops, a musical extravaganza, a youth talent show and powerful speakers. Day One - Thur 3rd July 2008 Attendees arrived in the morning and afternoon and were ushered / registered by the KCFA Maryland chapter that had arrived the previous day. Dinner was served at 5:00pm and thereafter the Opening Session was held at 7pm. The MC was Gideon Robi, KCFA 2nd Vice President and musical performances by Zaidi ya Mziki and KiKi opened the conference. The main speaker was Bishop J.B Masinde. In the Youth conference, the main speaker was Peter Mbithi. View pictures of Day One activities Day Two - Fri 4th July 2008 Morning Devotion was from 6-7am. Breakfast was served from 7-8am and the morning session began at 8:30am. Gordon Agingu from North Carolina led the session that included music by Joan Mwangangi. The speaker was Mrs Loice Byler. At 10:30am, there were mens and womens workshops till lunch. In the youth conf, there was a youth service at 8:30am and the speaker was Catherine Mungai. Thereafter there were workshops touching on Relationships, pornography and the internet, Music, movies and media. After lunch, all attendees congregated for a music extravaganza led by Indiana's Kevin Ngapiani that featured numerous artists. After that was more workshops for singles and couples as the youth went outdoors for some sports and games. After dinner, the evening session started at 7pm with Brenda Ngure from Massachussetts leading the program. Zaidi ya Mziki performed as Bishop J.B Masinde ministered. In the youth conference, there was a talent show hosted by Patricia Njenga from Maryland. Numerous performances were showcased including song, rap, memory verses, dances and skits. The competition was categorized into two; under 12 and over 13 with the top three winners in each category earning a trophy and a spot to perform at the main conference the following day. The night ended with an energy packed dance session with DJ Fresh. View pictures of Day Two activities View pictures of the Talent Show Day Three - Sat 5th July 2008 Saturday's morning session was led by Mark Nyutu from North Carolina and the main speaker was Rev William E White. There was also a membership drive and a few presentations. After lunch, there were several workshops including finance and investment, spiritual warfare, pastors and ministers and life stragegies. Thereafter, the annual general meeting was held that also included voting in a new National board to serve for three years. In the youth conf, there was a service in the morning and thereafter the teens were split into boys and girls and also various agegroups to discuss issues that affect them. After lunch, due to sudden downpour, the swimming session was cancelled and there was an impromptu session of testimonies and music. After dinner, all attendees congregated for the evening session facilitated by Donald Otieno from New Jersey that included presentations from the children and youth that topped their categories. There was also presentation of certificates and gift cards to facilitators, praise and worship team and children workers etc. The new KCFA National Board was also unveiled with most members having been retained from the previous board. There was a keynote address by Kenya's Ambassador to the US, Peter Ogego. Apostle David Karanja was the main speaker as the children and youth were dismissed for a session of movies. The main speaker was immediate former KCFA president Rev Dr Joseph Njoroge who had a hilarious introduction by his wife, Rev Wambui Njoroge. The conference was officially closed at 1pm as attendees returned to their respective states. |
