| ISAAC BLACKMAN IN KENYA RECAP |
| Fri, 17 Apr 2009 | ||||||
Isaac Blackman is a reggae artist from the Islands of Trinidad and Tobago who has quickly gained popularity with the Kenyan audience despite being barely known two years ago. Catapulted to fame for his hit song To The Ceiling, he travelled to Nairobi on the Easter weekend 2009 in the company of his wife Dixie-Ann Hunte and The Love Circle, the band he leads. The tour was put together by DJ Jey's Badilika DJs outfit and had a VIP show held on Good Friday at Nairobi Pentecostal Church, Valley Road and a general concert held at the KICC. Crowds started flowing into KICC as early as 11am for the show that was slated to start at 1pm. DJs Touch and Krowbar were on hand to keep the crowds on their feet before the show began. Curtain raisers for the event included Eunice Njeri, BMF Dancers, Kevoh Yout, Rufftone, Daddy Owen and MOG amongst others. The day’s MC was Zaidi ya Mziki's Lena who kept churning jokes that kept the crowd in stitches. Come 3pm and DJ Jey stepped to the mic and introduced Isaac Blackman and his band to the eagerly anticipating crowd. By this time the auditorium was packed and Isaac Blackman gave a great performance as he dropped songs from his albums. One of the highlights of the concert was when most of the band members did their solo songs. Nehilet Blackman did her songs Favour and Touch. Dixie-Ann Hunte also belted out her hit Righteous Change.
To crown the event, Isaac Blackman performed To The Ceiling which left almost everyone screaming for more. But 'all good things had to come to an end.' Factoring in that international reggae band Morgan Heritage was in the country and held a concert at the Carnivore concurrently, we would consider the event a huge success. The Isaac Blackman gig was sponsored by the Nation Media Group and HomeBoyz' new mineral water H2O while The Standard and KTN footed the bill for the Morgan Heritage one.
