On Sunday 25th January, 2009, many braved the below zero degree C temperatures to attend the inaugural Gospel Jam in Massachusetts. Organized by DJ Fresh and KenyanGospel.com, the event was held at Grace International Church in Chelmsford, MA. The event featured Baltimore-based reggae artist Chasemode as well as Worcester-based DJ Humble Skillz. Attendees started arriving early and at exactly 5pm, the event started with a live video mix by DJ Fresh. The place was lined with couches all along the walls hence was also a time to interact and get to know each other as they downed soft drinks and snacks. A few minutes to six, the place was packed as people made their way to the dancefloor as their favourite hits were played on some powerful speakers.
After some time, Chasemode took to the stage with his first of two sets. Dropping pure ragga / dancehall jams, he performed six songs back to back to ecstatic fans. It was then back to the dancefloor as the party energy went a notch higher. It was a session to remember all those dance styles from mosquito to helicopter and in between. There was a dance competition with a prize awarded to the winner. Under 16s were not left out as there was an exclusive session for them with headbanging radio hits switched up for the Kingdom. Chasemode was back as he performed his final 5-song set finishing off with Nimwabudu Nani remix (see video below for the full song performance) pics by ajabuafrica.com
The dancefloor was filled once again as the DJ played more gospel bangers. When he dropped all time favorite Mugithi, even the shy ones who had relegated themselves to watching from the sidelines could not help but join in (see video). It was some minutes to 9pm (the official time it was meant to end) but the party was now in top gear. More music, more dancing and more merry making extended the gig till 10pm. With reggae, dancehall, lots of local music, hip hop and R&B all evening, no one was left out of the action. KenyanGospel.com and DJ Fresh thanks all those who helped plan the event and those who attended including students from University of Massachusetts, Salem State, Boston University, MIT and Harvard University among others. Next event in Massachusetts will be held on 8th of March 2009 from 5-9pm and will feature high energy performers TW (check out TW's music video here). Also look out for Gospel Jam California (Los Angeles) on 14th March 2009.

I think we have to grow and not get mixed up. Some of the dances i seen do not resemble God in this events that the youth generation do attend. If this is what we will be doing then i want to let you know that te upcoming church will be a mess up church. Kenyans who ghave been grace to be here in US let shine and show others the real christianity. Otherwise i think i good work is being done

so what are those dances you are talking about? I didnt see any suggestive moves. You want to tell me christians cant dance without thinking of any negatives?

I didn't say that christian are not supposed to dance duds. I only said that when we dance lets keep in mind that our dances should resemble what we represent. One lady at the video slide was dancing in a way at one point i thought it was disco. Common!!! Lets not bring this to church and justify it. If this is the young people we and the organisers of this function are raising then tomorrow is doom. I repeat tomorrow is DOOM.

if you didnt see the title, it reads Gospel Jam aka Christian disco. The point of it I believe from the organizers was to have young people dancing to Christian music. From that video, I can tell everyone had clean fun. I think you are just reading too much into it. None of the moves (or slides as you put it) are extreme to warrant a lashing. Surely as a minister, arent you supposed to encourage your youth to attend these events not to criticize them especially since they are christian events? Or do you want them to go to the real discos where there is all the freedom?

The Bible say that there is away that seems right before the eyes of men but the end leads to death. Lets not justify things that are not Godly and think we are reaching out. I don\\\'t want to look old fashion but as a minister i was just commenting on what i thought was good for the views to read and just create awareness among the youth so that they can realise that the world is watching. We are to arise and shine.Sorry if i offended anyone with my view. Be rest assured that i will be commenting on anything i think is not good. I think this is why DJ Fresh made this opportunity available

Bwana Minister - With all due respect what do you define as the right and wrong dance and how can you tell the difference? What exactly qualifies you to act so righteous and judgemental over other human beings? The bible often preaches against judging others lest you'll be judged but christians seem so obsessed with pre-judgement and judgmental traits, gossips etc. God will judge everyone by their DEEDS. There are worse sins those sitting in the pew and at the synagues commit that would send a person to hell quicker than a mere dance and rejoicing for God. Thank God for his Mercies!
