DADDY OWEN - THE KING OF KAPUNGALA

Daddy Owen

Remember how the song Fundi wa Mbao became an instant hit all over the country in 2006-07? Daddy Owen's new song System ya Kapungala seems headed in that direction. The song has now topped christian charts on Hope FM and Homeboyz Radio and having featured it on our Music Central area over the last few weeks, we have received numerous requests to download the song. We recently sat down with Daddy Owen and asked a few questions that are on everyone's mind. Oh yes, he also gave us the O.K (like we always do with every artist) to enable YOU download this new joint FREE.

We know Kapungala is your original idea. How did it come about?
Kapungala is a fusion of Kapuka and Lingala. I have had the concept for quite some time though I could not find a producer who could execute it ... till now. Remember the song Pilka Pilka (from his sophomore release The Son of Man)?

Yes we do. So which producer finally got the concept and did System ya Kapungala?
The song was done by Dr Eddy from Eldoret. He works at Bishop Ben Bahati's studio. (check out the music video of Daddy Owen's collabo with Bishop Bahati and Rufftone)

Seeing from the positive reaction on radio and on the streets, is Kapungala the style you plan on sticking to?
You could say so although I will not be limited to it. I am currently working on two albums. The first one is called Kumbukumbu and will lean more towards Kapungala. The second one will be called Hollyfood and will have a ragga feel more like the song Waan Dem. They will be released sometime in 2009.

Which artists are going to be featured on the projects?
I will have Danco, M.O.G, Ngashville, Gideons Army and many more.

We also know you as Papa Fololo. How did it come about and what does it mean?
Papa Fololo is a name I was given by a friend of mine from DRC. It means Gentleman.

Do you plan on doing any tours outside the country?
Yes, hopefully I will be able to travel to the US sometime next year and thereafter go to South Africa.

So there you have it. We believe we've answered most of your Daddy Owen questions (straight to the point, weren't we?) If you still got more questions, feel free to add them below and Daddy Owen will answer them so keep checking back this article. Share your thoughts on the new single below.
