NAIROBI - Gospel artist Eko Dydda leads the list with 5 nominations for the 2010 Chaguo La Teeniez (CHAT) Awards. He is up against Marya, Habida and Avril in the Teeniez New Artist award. He is also in the Teeniez Gospel Artist category and is bound to be a tight contest with Daddy Owen, Allan Aaron and Juliani. His collabo with Holy Dave called Niko na Reason is nominated for Teeniez Hottest Track to compete with Yule Pale by Redsan, Kadhaa by Nonini and Niko Poa by Mejja. The song is also up for Teeniez Group or Collaboration and will be battling it up with gospel group M.O.G as well as P-Unit and Sauti Sol. In the Teeniez Gospel Song category, the song is nominated alongside System ya Kapungala by Daddy Owen, Pages za Bible by DJ Sadic, Alemba and Juliani as well as Pamela by Ringtone and SK Blue.
3-time CHAT award winners M.O.G will be looking to grab two more as they are nominated in the Teeniez Group and Teeniez Gospel Group categories. Juliani is also battling it out with Nonini, Redsan and Mejja in the Teeniez Male Artist category. K-Krew's DJ Moz and Njugush have their Crossover101 TV show nominated in the Teeniez VJ and Presenter in a Music Show category The awards have been divided into four. There is also a Schools category where various students and schools have been nominated for different awards, the Music Industry category, the Radio Industry awards and the TV Industry awards. It is worth noting that only NTV and Citizen TV shows are nominated in the TV categories. Voting will be conducted through SMS and online at www.theinsyder.com This year's CHAT awards will be held on 17th April 2010 at the Bomas of Kenya in Nairobi. The dealine for the voting period is 11th April 2010. Safaricom through their Skiza brand will be the title sponsors for the awards alongside Cadbury's. Just like the Kisima Awards, the CHAT awards were not held last year. There will be a red carpet entrance for nominees and invited guests. This is arguably the biggest moment of the awards show and artists have been known to go all out to have a grand entrance to the event. In 2007, artist Prezzo dropped to the venue in a helicopter that ignited celebrities to get innovative ways to wow the crowd. In 2008, Mejja pulled the same helicopter stunt, Code Red DJs checked in as fire fighters aboard a fire engine and Wahu came through in a convoy of 3 hummers (check out the pics here) The CHAT Awards is organized by The Insyder, a popular youth magazine that mainly targets High School students. With the drama surrounding former KTN presenter Esther Arunga, there was speculation that she had been nominated earlier in the Teeniez Role Model award but later dropped recently. The organizers tell KenyanGospel.com that this was not the case stating "according to our tallying processes Esther Arunga did not qualify for the slot." This year's Teeniez Role Model nominees are Safaricom's Michael Josephs, Kiss 100's Caroline Mutoko, KTN's John Allan Namu and Churchill (Daniel Ndambuki).
