The August 7th Memorial Park teamed up with the Kitenge team for the August edition of Kitenge Festival. This 6th edition dubbed the Kitenge Festival of Hope was held on Sunday 10th August 2008. It was inspired by the August 7th, 1998 bomb blast that killed over 200 people at the former American Embassy site. The site was subsequently transformed into the August 7th Memorial Park. It was benevolent of Kitenge Festival, which is held at this site, to dedicate this month’s edition to the theme of Hope. Over 200 Kenyan flags decorated the venue in remembrance of the people who lost their lives 10 years ago. SK Blue was this time round joined by Yunasi, winners of the 2007 BBC Next Big Thing Award. The group started in the early 2000's as gospel group "Emmanuel's Clan" before transforming into a contemporary African group. Other artists who performed included Canadian-based gospel artist Kambua (check out her profile in the artists section) as well as Mbuvi (download his album in the downloads section).
VIEW MORE PICTURES OF THE EVENT R&B singer Harry Kimani made a second appearance at the event with some african laced songs. Kitenge Band were on hand to back SK Blue with some thrilling live performances including the hit songs Muthurwa and Kitenge as well as a new song called Just in Case. There was a moment that Mbuvi's playback stopped when doing the song Nishike and it was amazing to see the band take over and finish the song so professionally. That's how good the band is. There was African merchandize selling at the event including uji (porridge) served in calabashes.
