What you’ve got in your hands is a piece of history. Before anyone was making Simple Moves or forming Raw Material, there was The Pride. Sintax the Terrific and Manchild have walked a long road together in life and through Hip-Hop music. Their friendship and artistry continues today through their shared affiliation with Deepspace5.
On Def Ears was recorded in 1998. The Pride then consisted of Manchild (Then, Soul Heir the Manchild), Sintax and producer, High Tech the Recon. Their hope, like the hopes of most young rap artists, was that this album would gain them the national attention that they had been working towards for the 2 years previous. But life moves quickly, label deals fell through, and On Def Ears never saw the light of day…until now.
This album has been credited as the style breakthrough point for both Sintax and Manchild. That is, while a raw representation, On Def Ears still stand on its own today as a project that all involved can be proud of. In 2010, we’ve come a long way. Sintax wows audiences and listeners with his in depth and calculated writing style. Manchild has gained an audience with his Mars ILL following and his solo material as being “The Emcee’s Emcee”. Recon has moved on to other ventures and no longer makes hip-hop music. However, is a big part of the foundation of Deepspace5, and to this album.
