Meet Patrick Musau, a 22 year old hip-hop artiste from the legendary K-South (Kariobangi South) who grew up in the notorious Dandora hood. He classifies his style as hip-hop but can blend it with Jazz, Benga, or with anything for the sake of diversity. When did you start doing music? I started doing music in 2003 when I was in high school (Buru Buru high school). I was introduced to Christ by Dominic of Maximum Melodies. I used to be a dancer before that. Our group was called Heavenly Dancers (A branch of Maximum Melodies) based in Dandora, Nairobi. I hooked up with a rapper called Butchi and we formed the group 'Christafellaz'. In 2003 I entered a rap battle at St. Andrews at the launch of 'The Stomp'. This was our first big appearance. We tried Ennovator but it didn't work out because he told us to fuse our style with R&B claiming that it would be more appealing. We got a track from Blackman before he joined Kijiji Records but that was that.

Challenges
Finances have been a challenge. I would like to do a video for my song Maisha Yangu but its proving to be hard. I don't like the way upcoming artistes are treated in the industry. I have seen producers, presenters and DJs treat upcoming artistes quite bad. I expect us Christians to treat artistes differently, if they don't like a certain production they should say so and help the artiste to come up with something better. They should do what Christ would do if he came back as a producer, presenter or DJ. I am also struggling with airplay because of biasness in the radio stations.

My purpose statement arises from Isaiah 42:6-7 which when paraphrased says I am called to righteousness, a light to the nations, to open eyes that are blind, to free captives from prison and to release from the dungeons those that who sit in darkness.
About the song Maisha Yangu Maisha yangu is my debut single. It's produced by the renowned Gittx. I wrote this song as a response after realizing my calling. When I finished school there was a lot of pressure to make something out of your life so when I got my calling I settled down and came up with this song.
Future plans
I'm planning on doing an album titled Maisha Yangu revolving around a theme of my life - Past, Present and Future. If all goes well I'm planning on featuring Juliani, Holydave and Kiki although I haven't confirmed with them.
